ILGISA is saddened to pass along the following news from NRCS:
It is with great sadness that I let you know that Tim Prescott passed away on Thursday morning, September 17, 2026. His wife Linda and son Cole were by his side. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Tim lost his final battle with cancer.
Tim came to Illinois as State GIS specialist. He was instrumental in establishing agreements to acquire and process LiDAR for the entire state, helped to establish minimum quality standards for acquisition, developed protocols for maps and derivatives, and worked with partners to integrate those derivatives into GIS databases and online services available for everyone. Prior to that, Tim worked in Morgantown, West Virginia as a GIS specialist with the Regional MLRA office, and I recall that he also worked in Lincoln, Nebraska on staff at the national office. Tim retired from NRCS in December, 2021 after 33 years of service.
Tim touched many lives and cultivated friendships and partnerships throughout NRCS.
