What Do We Do?
We sponsor conferences. Each year we sponsor two conferences,
one in the Chicago metro area and one in central Illinois.
These events provide an opportunity for participants to interact
with fellow professionals in their field, to hear presentations
on the latest developments in GIS, to view state of the art
GIS applications, and visit with commercial exhibitors. In
addition to conference sessions, full-day workshops are offered
in conjunction with these conferences which offer an opportunity
to examine specific issues in an in-depth manner.
These workshops have ranged from an "Introduction
to GIS" to special topics relating to the use of GIS
in the public safety arena. Occasionally, ILGISA also holds
additional workshops in various locations around the State.
We publish a newsletter and a membership
directory. Illinois GIS Notes
is the newsletter publication of ILGISA. The newsletter, which
is published twice a year, includes in-depth papers on a wide
variety of topics, short articles about the activities of
the association and other news pertinent to members. In addition,
ILGISA publishes an annual membership directory.
What Are Our Plans
for the Future?
We have organized a number of committees to expand our services
to members. Among our goals is to increase opportunities for
students looking to enter the GIS world, to enhance our communications
efforts with the addition of a web site, and to expand our
membership through an aggressive recruitment effort. Committees
have been organized to implement these goals. New ideas are
always welcome.
