Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern, Village of Algonquin (April 26, 2008)
The Village of Algonquin, IL (Pop. 30,500) is seeking applicants for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern during summer 2008 working 40 hours per week (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). This position will work under the supervision of GIS Coordinator.
Nature of Work:
This position is responsible for assisting with updating, maintaining, attributing, and overall development of GIS for the Village. Fieldwork will be required in the case of data verification.
Knowledge Required
Knowledge of basic cartographic procedures - coordinates, projections, digitizing, etc.
Knowledge of ESRI software
Knowledge of fundamental Geography
Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Access is a plus; must have computer hardware knowledge in general
Knowledge of other mapping software is a plus
Qualifications:
College level student or graduate with a concentration in GIS, geography, computer science, or a closely related field
College credit may be obtained with working if allowed by the school
Completion of one GIS course or previous project work experience, which utilized ESRI software
Must be detail oriented
Must have good communication skills
Should have the ability to work in a professional manner with internal employees
A valid driver’s license is required

Work Qualifications: |

Macon County is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, technically
capable GIS Specialist. This individual will perform professional level
work and be responsible for the development, implementation,
maintenance, and administration of a County GIS system.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Requires minimum knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in geography, GIS, planning or related field;
* Geographic Information System Professional certification from the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is desirable;
* Have at least 3 years of experience creating, designing and implementing GIS systems including geodatabase layers and associated
attribute information;
* Thorough knowledge and skill using ESRI software specifically including, but not limited to, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS ArcInfo, as well as
Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint);
* Experience using GPS data collection equipment (Trimble Geo Explorer XT, Magellan MobileMapper CX, or similar equipment) and
associated software to incorporate data into the GIS system;
* Ability to read and interpret survey data, legal descriptions, blueprints, layouts, plats and plans;

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Operates various hardware using software relating to all facets of local government in such areas as, but not limited to, transportation
and other infrastructure elements, zoning districts, enterprise zone, floodplains, corporate limits and other boundaries;
* Will maintain geodatabases, build maps, map templates, and projects; GIS data conversion / edition, GIS map production, spatial
database management, spatial analysis / reporting tasks;
* Design, develop, implement, and test complex GIS applications or significant enhancements to existing GIS applications;
* Performs database research and spatial analysis for various departments on projects using GIS software, spreadsheets, word
processing;
* Performs work with local and outside entities to integrate applications and obtain data;
* Provides advice and suggestions on utilizing existing components to the maximum and for direction on future component and
program needs as related to GIS.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

COMPENSATION:
Starting salary will be subject to negotiation, commensurate with experience. Anticipated salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 plus County

ASP.NET Web Developer, WIN GIS (March 7, 2008)
Description:
This position utilizes .NET technology to provide desktop and web-based applications for WinGIS agency and public web sites, and will also support the development of new Intranet-based applications for in-house use by WinGIS staff.
Specific skills:
• Knowledge and experience in developing and supporting a web site and applications on a Microsoft .NET/SQL platform using Microsoft infrastructure and tool set is required.
• Strong knowledge of current web standards and best practices.
• Expert skill level with ASP, ASP.NET, C# or VB.NET, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, T-SQL, and XML/XSL.
• Ability to support existing applications written in classic ASP with VBScript, JavaScript, and/or XML.
• Experience with Visual Studio.NET, SQL Server 2005, ESRI suite of products specifically ArcObjects, ArcGIS and Python a plus.
Requirements:
